Daft Punk bassist Nathan East has announced plans for his first solo album.
East has recruited a host of guest stars including Stevie Wonder, American singer Sara Bareilles and Steely Dan’s Michael McDonald to work on the record. He has previously worked with all the artists on their own projects along with Eric Clapton and Beyonce.
He told Billboard: “It’s a celebration of my musical friends and my musical life over 30 years’ worth of experiences and influences. The one thing I’ve learned is that I love a collaborative effort, the spirit of making music with a lot of great musicians in the room.”

He has played and/or performed with everyone from Toto, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson to Eric Clapton, Beyoncé, Andrea Bocelli and Daft Punk. Now popular session bassist Nathan East is recording his first solo album. The yet-untitled set — the first in a planned two-volume project — is due March 25, 2014 from Yamaha Entertainment Group.
“It’s a celebration of my musical friends and my musical life over 30 years’ worth of experiences and influences,” says East during a recording break at Los Angeles’ Ocean Way Studios. “The one thing I’ve learned is that I love a collaborative effort, the spirit of making music with a lot of great musicians in the room.”
Produced by East and Yamaha Entertainment founder Chris Gero, the ADA-distributed album will be a mix of originals and reimagined covers traversing East’s work in R&B, pop, rock and jazz. The covers include a tribute to Wonder on “Sir Duke,” Pat Metheny’s “Letter From Home” and “101 Eastbound” by Fourplay, in which East is a founding member.

by Veritas on Sep.21, 2013, under News, Press &Reviews
Pianist and composer Bob James may very well be the most sampled jazz musician in the history of hip-hop. Pieces of his now famous compositions like “Nautilus” and “Take Me to the Mardi Gras” have been endlessly loaded into MPCs, SP-1200s, and various other sampling devices for well over two decades. And those loops and chops make up the sounds of some of rap’s dopest records ever, like Ghostface Killah’s Wu banger “Daytona 500,” and Warren G and Nate Dogg’s West Coast classic “Regulate.” And that’s just two of hundreds. Scroll through Bob’s WhoSampled page, and you’ll find the names and sounds of seminal songs by Run-D.M.C., Gang Starr, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Main Source, Slick Rick, and countless other renowned rap acts. They all recognized Bob’s brilliance, and chose his music to be a part of their sample-based hip-hop masterpieces.
